Katja Oskamp's "Marzahn, mon amour"
16 - 23 May 2021
It is a special moment: two people in conversation, realising that they have read the same book... An exchange of thoughts, opinions, experiences is set in motion,, stimulated by a work of art. This rare moment is here to stay for a week, initiated by the campaign "Berlin liest ein Buch" (Berlin reads a book) – one special book becomes the talk of the town.
Katja Oskamp's "Marzahn, mon amour": A book with a plot that is as accessible as it is unusual: a chiropodist and her clients talk about their lives during a session, about what they have achieved and what they have not, about beautiful and sad moments. Through these narratives, the book becomes a panorama of Berlin's recent history - and a celebration of human interaction, of telling stories and listening.
Literature thus becomes a conversation starter and at the same time a thread of conversation that is spun on and connects friends and strangers. From 16 to 23 May 2021, literary works will be the focus of numerous cultural events in which everyone can participate.
With the campaign "Berlin reads a book", the campaign initiators want to create this special moment for the whole city and turn Berlin into a reading circle.
"Berlin liest ein Buch" (Berlin reads a book) is a joint campaign by the German Library Association, Berlin Chapter and broadcaster radioeins with the kind support of the Cooperative Library Network Berlin-Brandenburg.
