8th German Library Congress in Leipzig

#CreatingFreeSpaces

31 May - 02 June 2022

Around 2,500 participants and 120 trade exhibitors are expected at Europe's largest congress for the library sector. More than 200 lectures, discussions and workshops will address current challenges and important future issues facing libraries, of which around 40 events will be live-streamed. As a partner country, the Czech Republic will be represented with a special program.

The congress motto #FreiräumeSchaffen ties in with the City of Leipzig's theme year 2022 "Leipzig - Free Space for Education". As guarantors of freedom of information and places of civic participation, libraries are more important than ever. Not only in reference to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, but also in view of the dramatic developments in Ukraine, the urgent need for programs that promote self-organized exchange, democratic and digital literacy as well as participation in social dialog is evident. The motto is applied in the innovative event format #Freiraum22, which presents novel ideas, exciting projects, and unfinished thoughts from the library community for discussion.

The library congress is organized by the umbrella organization Bibliothek & Information Deutschland e.V. (BID) and organized together with its member associations, the Berufsverband Information Bibliothek e. V. (BIB), the German Library Association e.V. (dbv) and the Association of German Librarians e.V. (VDB) organized.
