SUBMISSION PERIOD 2022: 1 April to 30 June
From April 1st to June 30th, 2022, photographers can submit their photo series on the subject of HOME. The photo competition is aimed at professional and emerging photographers and, with a total of 42,000 euros in prize money, is one of the most valuable photo prizes in Germany. Participation is free of charge.
One facet of the competition is the broad spectrum of photographic approaches with innovative, analogue and digital possibilities of the medium of photography. The three main prizes in the »Best Photo Series« category and the Young Talent Prize for talents under the age of 26 are awarded to the most outstanding photographic works for the year 2022. The selection of the 33 finalists on the shortlist – including the four prize winners – is determined by a top-class jury of experts from the fields of photography , journalism, economics and teaching. The works of the previous award winners have already been presented in well-known institutions such as the Sprengel Museum in Hanover, the Kunstmuseum in Bochum and in other art museums and galleries.
Best photo series 2021
1st prize: "While I was waiting", Julia Autz
Julia Autz documents in her award-winning photo series "While I was waiting" the dreams and longings of a young generation in Belarus, searching for a path between awakening and repression.
2nd prize: "SUPERNATURE", Karina-Sirkku Kurz
The photo series "SUPERNATURE" by Karina-Sirkku Kurz explores the questions of the perception of our own body as a home and to which artificial manipulations it may be subjected.
3rd prize: "Living Room, San Francisco & Berlin", Jana Sophia Nolle
The long-term artistic project "Living Room" by Jana Sophia Nolle includes research and photographic installations in San Francisco and Berlin, contrasting the wealth of upper-class apartments with the precarious situation of homeless people.
Best young talent 2021: "Sometimes the sky above usis open", Sarah Grethe
Sarah Grethe accompanies her mother to her childhood home, a farm in southern Germany. She creates a playful look back into memories that are revived at the scene by the intense images in the photo series "Sometimes the sky is open above us."
