Hannover

23 - 26 May 2023

The 111th BiblioCon2023, the central professional conference of the library and information sector in Germany, will take place from 23-26 May 2023 in Hannover. Starting in 2023 the title "BiblioCon" will replace the former title "Deutscher Bibliothekartag", as the renowned congress has been called since its foundation in 1900. Around 3,500 participants from 18 countries are expected, including numerous European countries, Canada, the United Arab Emirates and the USA. Around 240 events will be offered, 34 of which will also be live-streamed. In addition, 127 companies will be represented in a trade exhibition.

The keynote speech at the opening will be given by award-winning journalist and author Düzen Tekal. The main topics include Artificial Intelligence - Libraries as Promoters of Digital Transformation and Guarantors of Authentic Information, Libraries as Centres of Democracy and Libraries as Promoters of Scientific Publishing Research Data Management and Transformation.

The name of the capital of Lower Saxony read backwards led to the motto of this year's congress. Hanover becomes "re von naH". Playing creatively with the syllables, the well-known Dadaism artist Kurt Schwitters ended with the conclusion that Hanover, read forwards, would then strive to the “immeasurable”: "Forward to far". The motto symbolizes innovative ideas and creativity, new ways and experiments to meet our society’s challenges of the present and the future.
