The Ernst von Siemens Kunststiftung (EvSK) has made a name for itself in the last forty years by providing rapid, unbureaucratic assistance to many German museums. Operations include the return of stray art treasures and five paintings from the “Gotha Art Heist” in 1979, but also the purchase of more than 560 individual or sets of works, support for 340 restoration projects and funding for over 1,000 exhibitions or exhibition catalogues and more than 350 catalogues of collection holdings. The foundation has responded to urgent social and political needs with its Covid and Ukraine Funding Lines. EvSK made its mark in the international arena by granting the financial backing for Digital Benin, the digital platform that connects data about artefacts from the Kingdom of Benin held by 131 museums and institutions in 20 different countries.
To mark the 40th anniversary of its establishment as an art foundation, the Ernst von Siemens Kunststiftung takes great pleasure in inviting you to a Press Lunch at the Magnus-Haus on Berlin’s Museum Island. One focus, under the motto Gotha Once Again, will be the presentation of a spectacular work of art that went astray after the Second World War and has now returned to the Friedenstein Stiftung Gotha. The other will be a display, in the original, of a significant new acquisition for the Alte Nationalgalerie in Berlin. The foundation will take this opportunity to review its record and present key areas of activity.
