To mark the fifth anniversary of the death of Anja Niedringhaus on 4 April 2014, the Käthe Kollwitz Museum in Cologne will honour the photographer and Pulitzer Prize winner with a major solo exhibition. With over 80 large-format photographs on display, this first posthumous retrospective presents an œuvre that made its author an icon in her own lifetime, before she was murdered in Afghanistan. On behalf of agencies like the US-based Associated Press (AP), Niedringhaus shot legendary pictures that adorned the covers of the world’s top newspapers and magazines.

This impressive œuvre includes photographs from war and crisis regions, but also brilliant portraits and sporting scenes, which will be shown entirely in colour for the first time in Cologne. The exhibition is curated by Sonya Winterberg, who knew Anja Niedringhaus personally and is working on a docufiction together with German broadcaster ZDF as well as a biographical publication to coincide with the film.

The special exhibition will be accompanied by a catalogue and a full programme of events.
