Bach House Eisenach 2019

“Bach or not Bach, that is the question” could also be the title of Bachhaus Eisenach’s new exhibition that opened June 28th. The first time since 1994, the focus is brought back to the iconography of the great composer, one of the museum’s collection core area. The exhibition explores mysteries around well-know yet disputed portraits of Bach. Original and early copies of 11 of these are presented in the exhibition. 14 exhibition stations trace the puzzles about the alleged portraits. A catalogue included in the admission charge explains the current debates.

On the occasion of the 334th Bach birthday on March 21, 2019, an exhibition of the association Lebenshilfe Tübingen opens in the Bach House Eisenach. For more than two years, 35 artists with or without disabilities have studied the Bach’s music and history. Over eighty works were created, which were first shown at the Bach Festival of the New Bach Society in Tübingen in 2018 and can now be seen again in Eisenach for six weeks. Over a period of two years, artists created their own access to Bach's work in a dialogue between listening and artistic work, in the studio and in inclusive workshops. Thus, a variety of artistic approaches, interpretations and pictorial compositions emerged.
