Berlin Book Festival at Bebelplatz

After 15 years, the Berlin Book Festival will once again be celebrated at Bebelplatz: A festival, a huge open-air bookstore, and an entire weekend to indulge, discover, and immerse yourself in the world of books. Well over 100 Berlin publishers and bookstores will welcome visitors at Bebelplatz! At over sixty events, the audience can meet prominent as well as up and coming authors. The program offers literary texts, thrillers, debates on social issues such as nature and the environment, flight and exile, modern life and the metropolis of Berlin. Readings and workshops tailored for children and young people are also on the schedule.

90 years ago, on May 10, 1933, Nazis and their sympathizers burned books on Bebelplatz. It is inconceivable to celebrate today's joyful diversity of literature without remembering the book burning of 1933. The book festival will inform about the history of the book burning and remember the fate of the authors whose books were burned in 1933.
