Flanders & The Netherlands

This is what we share

Two years ago Flanders & the Netherlands embarked upon a great adventure: a Dutch-Flemish cooperation for the Guest-of-Honourship at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2016. The motto This is what we share reached beyond the book fair with the presence throughout Germany and caused a great wave of awareness for Dutch and Flemish literature. It was an unforgettable experience for authors, publishers, professionals and visitors of the Frankfurt book fair.

The results spoke for themselves: more than 314 new literary translations, more than 450 new books relating to the Netherlands and Flanders, more than 1,000 programs and events, with the participation of around 200 Dutch and Flemish authors, and 7,000 articles and references online alone in the German language area.

Flanders & the Netherlands want the wave to keep on rolling: They started a kick off with a special program at the International Literaturfestival Berlin (ILB) in September 2017 and were invited as the guest of honour at the festival STADT LAND BUCH in Berlin and Brandenburg in November.

With twelf authors and new trends crossing borders between literature and technic Flanders & the Netherlands were present at Leipziger Buchmesse 2018. Readings & talks were offered on the legendary „Blaue Sofa“ and throughout the festival „Leipzig liest.“ In 2019 the Netherlands will return to Leipzig with an extensive program.
