Human! Sculpture

Kunstforum Ingelheim – Old Town Hall

August 12 to October 21, 2018

The renovation and contemporary extension of the Old Town Hall on Francois-Lachenal-Platz in Nieder-Ingelheim are finally completed after two years of intensive construction. The whole complex will be reopened on 12 August 2018 under the new name "Kunstforum Ingelheim – Old Town Hall". The newly renovated and updated building, now supplemented by an annex, was last converted in 1982, when it became an exhibition site. This year it now offers the opportunity to experience historical architecture and art in a new symbiosis.

The exhibition “Human! Sculpture” brings together 12 entirely different sculptural approaches to the human body. The exhibition explores the different paths along which three-dimensional representation of the body has developed, from realism right up to the abstract. The exhibition presents a diverse selection of sculptures grouped by pose and subject, such as standing, seated, recumbent or dancing, or focusing on parts of the body, such as the head or hands. These have been kindly loaned to Ingelheim by museums and private collectors in Germany, Great Britain and Switzerland.

The selection of the twelve artists – Alexander Archipenko, Max Beckmann, Rudolf Belling, Edgar Degas, Alberto Giacometti, Georg Kolbe, Henri Laurens, Wilhelm Lehmbruck, Aristide Maillol, Henry Moore, Pablo Picasso, Auguste Rodin – highlights the great variety of sculptural forms over the last hundred years.

The exhibition is open to visitors from August 12 to October 21, 2018, in the Old Town Hall, Nieder-Ingelheim, and is a project organized by the Internationale Tage.
