For the first time a project at the Kunstquartier Bethanien will be solely dedicated to bioart. Creating an interdisciplinary field between art and science in times of a pandemic, that has been confronting society with scientific expertise previously reserved for experts in the field, the artistic positions of Margherita Pevere, Theresa Schubert and Karolina Żyniewicz offer an interface between one's own body, everyday experience and controversial topics such as contraception and meat consumption or right to suicide.
Six exhibition rooms will be dedicated to the respective approaches of the three artists and make visible what usually remains hidden to the public: Drawings, laboratory journals, photographs and other objects are made accessible, as are selected works by Pevere, Schubert and Żyniewicz. The three artists are both artistically and curatorially responsible for the exhibition. For Membranes Out Of Order they let their varying positions meet, overlap, merge and derive from each other. The show anchors art as a cognitive attitude, a performative act or as a link to nature in a consistent examination of the human being as a living organism and actor within a complex whole.
In cooperation with the German Federation of the Blind and Partially Sighted (DBSV), low-barrier communication concepts such as tactile objects, descriptions in Braille, and audio descriptions are part of the exhibition.
