Tanztreffen der Jugend
Berliner Festspiele
27 September to 3 October 2025
The selection for the Tanztreffen der Jugend 2025 has been made! This year, 53 ensembles from all over Germany applied for the Tanztreffen der Jugend. After the members of the jury were able to experience the productions of the Shortlist in live viewings, they have now selected 8 ensembles with their works for the final selection.
The award-winning works include a solo and a trio as well as a large ensemble piece with more than 30 dancers. Short works ranging from a few minutes to full-length pieces lasting just under an hour were selected. One of the award winners is an inclusive ensemble. It is pleasing to note that half of the selected works were created on the young dance makers’ own initiative and under their own direction. They often worked collectively and the ensemble members created original music or designed costumes and stage sets, among other things. One production also features a live band on stage. The groups cover the entire spectrum of young dance production contexts: the works were created in ballet or dance schools with a contemporary profile, in schools, at independent theatres or in youth clubs at state theatres, in independent groups and associations, or also at dance houses.
The evening-length hip-hop production “Gravity” by the National Youth Dance Company (NYDC) with 33 dancers aged 16 to 25 from all over England can be seen as a guest performance at the 12th Tanztreffen der Jugend on 28 September 2025. “Gravity” is about the forces of attraction that connect people and create communities.

We are heartbroken. Our dear colleague and friend Celia passed away unexpectedly on January 18. We are mourning her deeply and feel an immense sense of loss. As a co-founder of Artefakt Kulturkonzepte, Celia shaped the agency from its very beginning. She was not only a driving force in our work, but also a trusted partner and a wonderful person whose presence meant so much to all of us. Working alongside her was a privilege, and her warmth, commitment, and clarity will stay with us. Our thoughts and deepest sympathy are especially with her family and loved ones at this painful time. May she rest in peace. We miss her greatly.
