Forum Offene Gesellschaft

Wars, geopolitical upheavals, authoritarian forces, disinformation: our democracy is under pressure. For the fourth time, the Leipzig Book Fair is therefore providing a central platform with the “Forum Offene Gesellschaft” (Forum on Open Society) to discuss the pressing issues of our time. The discussion formats invite the audience to participate actively. The diverse program includes contributions from the Alliance of Publishers Against the Right, the Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung, PEN Berlin, PEN Centre Germany, the investigative media outlet CORRECTIV, the Institut français Germany, WIR Festival Halle, and the working group for Freedom of Expression of the German Publishers and Booksellers Association. Prominent podcasts and the International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film (DOK Leipzig) are supporting the forum as additional partners.

Commissioned by Leipziger Messe, ARTEFAKT develops the conceptual framework for the entire "Forum Offene Gesellschaft" and two days of "Forum Mensch und KI", coordinates all partners, and oversees the organization and implementation of the events at both stages in Hall 2 and Hall 5 at the Leipzig Book Fair 2026.
