Restoration

War-damaged artworks at the Bode-Museum

Ernst von Siemens Kunststiftung

Berlin, spring 2018

The Sculpture Collection and Museum of Byzantine Art (State Museums of Berlin) are presently restoring 59 pieces of art, among them numerous sculptures and reliefs from the Renaissance period.

They belong to the artworks the “Museumsinsel” (Museum Island) deposited in a flak bunker in Friedrichshain during the second world war where they suffered from severe damages.

Thanks to the generous support of the Munich-based Ernst von Siemens Kunststiftung the restoration of these precious objects will be financed as well as a research project according to the funding guidelines of “Kunst auf Lager” alliance.
