WIKI LOVES EARTH - PHOTOGRAPHING AND PROTECTING NATURAL HERITAGE

An aerial photo of the Jägersfreude slag heap in Saarbrücken, snow-covered poplar shoots or a close-up of the variable crab spider and its prey in the Odenwald - all these motifs won prizes in Wiki Loves Earth Germany in 2021, and now the Wikipedia community is once again calling for the world's largest photo competition for natural heritage.

Wiki Loves Earth is an international photo competition initiated and run by the Wikipedia community, dedicated to the photographic documentation of flora and fauna worthy of protection. The aim of the initiators is to photograph as many natural monuments and protected areas as possible under a free license and to contribute to nature conservation by raising public awareness.

For orientation and inspiration for the participating photographers, there are lists describing nature reserves and protected areas of the federal states. In addition to the selection of national winners, the 15 best-rated motifs from Germany will be submitted for the international competition.

The upload phase for Wiki Loves Earth Germany 2022 runs from May 1 to 31, 2022.

In 2013, Wikimedia Ukraine realized the first Wiki Loves Earth edition. In view of the current destruction and threat to Ukraine, the nature photographs from that time also form a memorial against war. Many of the cultural and natural monuments photographed have already been destroyed or are under acute threat.
