Time Travellers
Radialsystem, 2020
With its new production »Time Travellers«, the Rundfunkchor Berlin and it’s conductor Gijs Leenaars embarks on a journey through time, creating the next project in their series of interdisciplinary performances including »human requiem« and »LUTHER dancing with the gods«. For four nights, a horizon is opened that the choir as well as the audience will travel together. Music by Dove, Brahms and Debussy, a media production by Nick & Clemens Prokop and choreography by Shang-Chi Sun will tell the story of the becoming and passing of all things of life.
With »Time Travellers«, the Rundfunkchor Berlin opens up a further dimension of experiencing music. The division between stage and auditorium is dissolved and the audience is placed right in the middle of actors and scenery. Images, space and sounds are woven into each other and invite the audience on a journey through their own life, engaging all their senses.
»The Passing of the Year« by the British composer Jonathan Dove serves as the backbone of the evening. The song cycle sets poems by William Blake, Emily Dickinson and other poets to music for two choirs and piano. In addition, music by Johannes Brahms, Claude Debussy, John Dowland and Robert Heppener will be brought to life.
With around 60 concerts a year, CD recordings and international guest performances, the Rundfunkchor Berlin is one of the most outstanding choirs in the world.
