Galerie Nord | Kunstverein Tiergarten
April 22 - June 5, 2023
With cross-disciplinary exhibition projects, performances, an opera installation, and a diverse discourse program, the VOICE:over program series at Galerie Nord | Kunstverein Tiergarten presents manifold phenomena of the voice.
What happens to a voice when it is recorded? How are memory, narrative and history preserved, and what is lost in the process? The exhibition "Talking Heads: Archival Echoes" presents three artistic positions on the archiving of "voice" as part of the VOICE:Over series at Galerie Nord.
The video archive HERstory (founded in 2012 by curator Julie Crenn and artist Pascal Lièvre in France) captures personal accounts of feminist and gender positions in the art world. In 2023, HERstory recorded a new series of interviews in Berlin that capture how issues of gender are articulated in personal life experiences. This latest collection of oral history videos is presented for the first time in this exhibition.
Tuan Mami's installation "Museum of the Immigrating Garden" (2023) makes visible a deeply personal and hidden history of migration from Vietnam to Germany. The work is part of the ongoing project "Immigrating Garden" (2020 to present), most recently shown as a site-specific installation at documenta 15 in Kassel.
Gulzat Egemberdieva's installation "Neither in the Mountain, nor in the Field" (2023) illustrates the importance of oral tradition for the nomadic communities of Central Asia.
