Vonovia Award for Photography 2020/21

For most people, the significance of one’s home has changed dramatically over the past year. A refuge for retreat and relaxation has become a place of work, dissolving boundaries delineating personal privacy. The renowned VONOVIA AWARD FOR PHOTOGRAPHY has been centering the motif HOME since its introduction in 2017.

From April 1 to June 30, 2021, photographers and artists were invited to submit photo series addressing the subject of HOME. The photo competition is directed at professional as well as up-and-coming photographers. Awarding 42.000 euros, the VONOVIA AWARD FOR PHOTOGRAPHY is one of the most highly endowed photo prizes in Germany. Participation is free of charge.

The competition is open to a broad spectrum of photographic approaches using innovative, analog and digital possibilities of the medium. Three grand prizes in the category "Best Photo Series" category; and the Young Talent Award for photographers under the age of 26 reward the most outstanding photographic works 2021. The selection of the total of 33 finalists from the shortlist - including the four winners - will be determined by a top-class jury of experts from the fields of photography, journalism, business and teaching. The award-winning works are presented in renowned institutions such as the Sprengel Museum Hannover, the Kunstmuseum Bochum and in other art museums and galleries in cities like Hamburg, Berlin or Vienna.

The VONOVIA AWARD FOR PHOTOGRAPHY would like to offer photographers the opportunity to creatively develop their own interpretations of HOME in a photo series.
