Ernst Ludwig Kirchner. Stages

International Days Ingelheim

April 30 to Juli 9, 2023

The exhibition "Ernst Ludwig Kirchner. Stages" presented in the five exhibition rooms of the Kunstforum Ingelheim at the Altes Rathaus, features five stages that were significant in Kirchner’s life and work as an artist: life in his Dresden studio; the bustling Berlin street scenes from before the First World War; the oneness of humankind and nature on the Baltic island Fehmarn; the years 1915 to 1918, which were overshadowed by a deep personal crisis; and a new life in the rural mountains in Davos, Switzerland, where he made his home in 1918.

Featuring drawings, watercolours, and woodcuts, as well as a few select paintings, the exhibition provides an in-depth look at the work of Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, one of the founding artists of expressionist group Die Brücke, or “The Bridge.” Kirchner is considered one of the most influential artists of the first two decades of the 20th century in Germany.

In spring 2023, HIRMER Verlag will publish a comprehensive catalogue in which all the exhibited works are reproduced in colour.
