Young Euro Classic

Festival of the best youth orchestras in the world

After a fully prepared festival with youth orchestras from all over the world had to be cancelled, Young Euro Classic has developed a completely new concept for the Konzerthaus Berlin: Instead of symphony orchestras, the festival will now present the finest chamber music and inspiring ensembles from 1 to 10 August. The outstanding artists come not only from the ranks of long-standing festival friends such as the Bundesjugendorchester and the European Union Youth Orchestras, but also from Berlin's three musical centres of excellence: the Universität der Künste, the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin and the Barenboim-Said Akademie.

Four of the 11 one-hour concerts emphasize the European idea. The opening concert refers to Greece and the origins of democracy. On the following days, the ensembles will trace European metropolises from Vienna via Paris to St. Petersburg and the pioneering composers who worked there. The Berlin concert evening will bring a completely different musical colour when students of the Berlin Jazz Institute will perform "Swing, Schlager, Hits and Curiosities", which will celebrate 100 years of capital city music.

Young audiences will also have their say in the Next Generation section of the program. There is the workshop week "On.Off.//" (July 28 - August 1) at the Alte Feuerwache Kreuzberg in cooperation with the ACADEMY Stage Art School with acting, dance, movement and music, the presentation of an ideas workshop by Berlin high school students in cooperation with the international literature festival berlin and young.euro.connect e.V. (August 9) and Ethiopian fairy tales, which were specially set to music for Next Generation by the composer Sinem Altan (August 2-4).

Thanks to the exemplary promotion of young talent in Germany and the constant support and great flexibility of its partners, Young Euro Classic will continue in 2020 to offer both proven friends of the festival a stage and the international excellence that can be found on their doorstep.
