FORECAST Festival 2018

International platform for pioneering ideas

Festival: October 12-13, 2018

As an international platform for knowledge transfer, Forecast offers pioneers from anywhere in the world working in various disciplines the chance to work with accomplished mentors toward bringing their projects to fruition, and to present them to the public. Forecast transcends the boundaries of disciplines and genres to provide insight into creative production processes, and makes space for the questions on the minds of the next generation of trailblazers.

The six distinguished mentors for Forecast 2018 are museum director Tulga Beyerle (Austria), curator David Elliott (UK), video artist Omer Fast (Israel/ Germany), musician Holly Herndon (USA), artist Laura Lima (Brazil), and curator and producer Peter Meanwell (UK/ Norway).

Closing intensive days of Forecast Forum at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt in May, the mentors have each selected one talent with whom they will collaborate for the next months. The third edition of the Forecast Festival, taking place from October 12-13, is dedicated to these and other future-oriented investigations. The two-day festival presents six pioneering projects by emerging artists and cultural practitioners created in collaboration with esteemed mentors.

Concluding a five-month mentorship process, the six international mentees share the outcomes of their transdisciplinary work: a parafiction about a recent convert to Islam and an environment that becomes activated by everything within it are just some of the forward-thinking projects showcased during this weekend filled with discussions and workshops in the fields of Invasive Design, Moving Image, Composition, Looking, Beyond Radio, and Living Matter.

The two-day festival will also host Forecast’s new initiative called Housing the Human, a collaboration with six European platforms and institutions. The conference uses specific experiential prototypes stemming from five different research approaches to stimulate potential scenarios for a livable future.
